RUIE and FBA EAC Join Forces: Establishment of the FBA EAC International Committee on Standardization
On October 8 in Moscow, a meeting took place between Li Shuobing, General Director of the Financial and Business Association of Euro-Asian Cooperation (FBA EAC), and Andrey Lotsmanov, Deputy Chairman of the RUIE Committee on Technical Regulation and Chairman of the Council for Technical Regulation and Standardization under the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation. The primary focus of the dialogue was the consolidation of efforts by both organizations in the fields of standardization and digitalization.
At the initiative of Li Shuobing, the FBA EAC is establishing an International Committee on Standardization and Conformity Assessment. The core strategic objective of this new body is the harmonization and alignment of global approaches to product standardization and certification. Experts are confident that this initiative will effectively reduce non-tariff barriers in international trade. Particular emphasis in the Committee’s activities will be placed on advanced sectors, namely the digitalization of production processes and artificial intelligence technologies.
The activities of the new International Committee are closely intertwined with global economic processes, particularly the BRICS agenda. It is worth recalling that on September 10, during a meeting of the BRICS Business Council in New Delhi, RUIE representatives proposed the creation of a specialized sub-group on standardization and conformity assessment within the Industrial Working Group. The development of this area is gaining particular relevance given that the People's Republic of China will assume the BRICS chairmanship in 2027, hosting the summit and the BRICS Business Council meeting in the autumn of that year.
The practical operations of this new body will commence this autumn. The inaugural meeting of the International Committee on Standardization and Conformity Assessment is scheduled for November 24 and will be hosted at the RUIE premises.
The FBA EAC’s international platform will provide comprehensive support for the further development and scaling of the new Committee’s initiatives. The pooling of resources and expert potential will create a solid foundation for developing advanced standards and fostering productive dialogue among industrial stakeholders on a global scale.
