I.P. Bardin State Scientific Center – Central Research Institute of Ferrous Metallurgy Plans to Join the FBA EAC

On July 27, 2026, a working meeting was held at the FBA EAC headquarters on Kotelnicheskaya Embankment. The meeting brought together Sergey Korotkov, Advisor to the President of the FBA EAC, and Alexander Kotlyarsky, Chairman of the FBA EAC Industry Committee, with Sergey Karaulov, Deputy Director General of the I.P. Bardin State Scientific Center – Central Research Institute of Ferrous Metallurgy (a State Scientific Center operating as a Federal State Unitary Enterprise, known as FSUE TsNIIchernet). The parties discussed prospects for cooperation and the potential accession of the Institute to the FBA EAC.

The I.P. Bardin State Scientific Center – TsNIIchernet operates under the auspices of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation on a commercial cost-accounting basis. The Institute houses a robust analytical center that prepares expert reports and analytical materials for the national leadership and major metallurgical enterprises.

The Institute’s key areas of activity include international projects, the integration of innovative technologies into production processes, and comprehensive research in the mining sector, encompassing ore studies and the development of beneficiation and mineral processing methods. The Institute has a proven track record of implementing international projects, notably in Turkmenistan, where it developed a strategy for establishing a national metallurgical industry. It also collaborates with major players in the Russian market, such as Metalloinvest (Mikhailovsky GOK) and Nornickel.

During the meeting, Sergey Karaulov expressed the Institute’s interest in participating in FBA EAC analytical projects, as well as in joint efforts focused on industrial waste processing, the development of new technological solutions, and the launch of pilot projects. Following the negotiations, it was agreed that the Director of the Institute’s relevant specialized center would be delegated to participate in an upcoming thematic seminar.

The accession of the I.P. Bardin State Scientific Center – TsNIIchernet to the FBA EAC will significantly enhance the Association’s expert capacity in metallurgy and the mining sector. It will facilitate the integration of a comprehensive analytical framework for ferrous metallurgy and expand competencies in industrial waste processing, ore beneficiation, and maximizing the depth of raw material processing. The Institute’s membership will grant the Association access to unique scientific and analytical expertise, while laying the groundwork for joint projects with key industry enterprises.
