Evgeny Bazhov, Head of the Representative Office of the Financial and Business Association of Euro-Asian Cooperation in China and General Representative of the Russian Export Center in China, sees the practical significance of this initiative primarily in the creation of new trade and cooperation channels within the SCO. According to him, in August, the REC, in collaboration with the Tianjin authorities, already held a business program in the city—the "Made in Russia" festival-fair—during which around 60 Russian companies from 30 regions held negotiations with Chinese partners. For him, this is a concrete example of how an intergovernmental agenda is translated into direct business contacts.
Bazhov notes that the establishment of the center can further enhance this work, primarily through the development of port logistics, new routes, and increased cargo flows between the organization's member states. The next practical step is a reciprocal visit by Chinese companies and partners to Moscow on September 23. Such formats allow parties to move beyond merely discussing cooperation to finalizing contracts and launching joint projects.
He pays special attention to the technological component: the announced 100 scientific and technological projects over three years create opportunities for Russian companies not only to export finished products but also to engage in joint technological ventures. For the REC, the task here is clear: to connect Russian businesses with specific buyers, partners, and projects in the SCO markets, and to support this work through to tangible, practical results.

Evgeny Bazhov: PRC Initiative in Tianjin Will Create New Trade Channels Within the SCO
On September 3, 2026, the China-SCO Port Economic Cooperation Center was inaugurated in Tianjin. Speaking at the SCO Summit in Bishkek on September 1, the Head of the PRC stated that the center would facilitate the joint utilization of resources at the border checkpoints of SCO member states, leverage their complementary advantages, and ensure the high-quality implementation of the Belt and Road Initiative. Furthermore, it is planned to implement 100 scientific and technological projects with the organization's member countries over the next three years.
