Tudor Afanasov, member of the FBA EAC Board, was awarded the Honorary Compatriot Badge
Within the framework of celebrating the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War, Tudor Afanasov, member of the FBA EAC Board, Head of the FBA EAC Representative Office in Romania, took an active part in the commemorative events in Bucharest.
On the 6th of May, 2025, a delegation of the Chamber for Economic and Cultural Cooperation between Romania and Russia, led by Mr. Afanasov, laid wreaths at the Cemetery of Soviet Soldiers, paying tribute to the heroes who liberated Europe from Nazism. On the same day, the Russian Embassy in Romania hosted a reception on the occasion of Victory Day, at which Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation Vladimir Lipaev awarded Mr. Afanasov the Honorary Compatriot Badge. This award, established by the Government Commission on the Affairs of Compatriots Abroad, is given for the contribution to the preservation of Russian culture, language and historical memory, as well as the development of international dialogue.
As a reciprocal gesture, Tudor Afanasov handed the diplomatic mission a copy of the Victory Banner, which he had received at the Land of Winners forum in Moscow from the hands of Irina Dorozhkina, daughter of the legendary Sergeant Mikhail Egorov, who hoisted the banner over the Reichstag in 1945. In the accompanying message, he emphasized that this symbol of courage and victory over fascism is intended to remind of the heroism of ancestors and strengthen friendship between nations.
In addition, a book about the Nuremberg Trials and a documentary film about the Second World War, produced in cooperation between the USSR, the USA and the UK, were presented to the Embassy as a testimony to the common historical memory.
In his speech, Ambassador Lipaev noted the unacceptability of revising the outcomes of the war and the revival of neo-Nazism, emphasizing Russia's moral responsibility to protect the truth about the exploits of the Soviet people.
This event was another step in strengthening international ties and preserving historical heritage, which aligns with the key objectives of FBA EAC.
