The Astana Economic Forum Global Challenges Summit
On May 17-19, 2018 in Kazakhstan the Astana Economic Forum Global Challenges Summit was held. This year the Forum was based on general trends: economic growth and resource turbulence, longevity and financial revolution, digitalization and urbanization, global safety and cultural shift.
More than 5 000 from 111 countries joined the event. 500 speakers moderated the Forum, including the eighth UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, the Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak, the Director of Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) Jin Liqun and many others. The representatives of international and Kazakh business, state and non-governmental organizations as well as expert shared their view of the role of business in the sustainable development and economic changes at global level, regional level and in Kazakhstan.
The President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbaev traditionally opened the Forum. He pointed out five focus areas: digitalization, population growth on the planet, energy revolution, change of character of urbanization and transformation of the world labor market. Nursultan Nazarbaev touched upon each trend and stressed their importance for Kazakhstan as well as for the whole world. The President also spoke about other current issues, such as crypto currencies.
In general, summing up the Forum we could say that all sessions gained interest from the participants, while the speakers chose the most up-to-date topics. As a result a lot of interesting and useful proposals were worked out, waiting to be implemented in life.
